Now while this mindset has gotten me to various places in life it has only gotten me so far.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still that strong independent young beautiful 😉 woman with a crazy amount of ambition… but to say I don’t need others is NOT true!
Thing is, we were built for community and I am not a special unicorn that defies that rule and neither are you, my friend!
This “I don’t need anyone” mindset was a defense mechanism not a badge to wear proudly.
Growing up, I had an amazing yet challenging childhood. My mom suffered from cancer for the majority of my childhood so I felt that I had to be strong for her- though she never put this on me. I always had a big, close, and supportive family but as a natural born leader I had to put a lot on my shoulders that no young child should have to bear. But for my mom, I would do it all over again.
This mindset as a child led to the toxic “I don’t need anyone to make things happen” mindset. Again ambition was born out of that but I needed to make a tweak to the “I can do it myself” part.
As I was building my business I kept hearing how important it was to have a mentor or a coach who had been where you were trying to go. I had done research and found out that a lot of the “greats” had mentors and coaches they looked up to to help them get to where they are now – they didn’t do it alone.
So I remember the day when I realized I can only go so far with what I currently know that I need a higher level of support- this is when I hired a coach and everything changed. Not only did that coach help me see the vision for my business and build out a plan to attain it. I also met business besties that I can lean on and vice versa as we go on our business journey.
At this point I can’t imagine where I would be within business without my online community, my business friends, my personal friends, and without the coaches and mentors that have poured into me and my business along the way.
There’s an African proverb that says,“If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together.
Community matters and is vital to achieving our goals.
